how'd you do that greg?? lol ;)

  11. Killer! I was just looking for this a week ago. Thank you Katonah.

Greg, can I get an invite to Sounds From The Edge Of The Universe? Thank you.

  12. Gooood! It is always an inmense pleasure to listen to Maupin's bass clarinet, I was curious to see what he did with Neophilia that he recorded with Lee Morgan (something altogether different) and in his Penumbra. Great Peacock too, great post, thanks Katonah. Greg has said it all.

  13. The sound of the bass clarinet on track 1 is the same of the Bitches Brew Sessions, recorded a few mounts before. Both Bennie Maupin and Jack DeJohnette played the those sessions. Notice how Jack constantly changes rhythms, at least on track 1, I'm listening now.

  14. I will just thank you once with the projected love that equals 400x. This and the Gary Bartz album Home make two Milestone albums I've somehow never seen nor heard of before they were posted on blogs. Really looking forward to this, just for the lineup. Was Peacock still living in Japan during this time?

  15. No, I had seen it before a few month. At that time, I had preferred two gems of Sabu to this. However now I'm grabbing, thanks katonah.

  16. Just clearing my conscience and establishing a line of credit for all the stuff I've snagged and will in the future...

    @solomon
Universe is a very limited community and only open to friends and those that regularly contribute stuff of value to sites i visit -- hence me offering igor an invite. It's my way of saying thanks to those contributors.

If you want to be considered (and im happy to consider anyone) then either contribute stuff here maybe or set up a blog and share your collection?

I appreciate that you say thanks and have good manners that's quite refreshing in the blog o sphere credit to your parents for bringing you up right :)

    So upto you?

    Cheers

  17. I'm skeptical when I see that the drummer is the leader, and it is not Max Roach. He set the standards and he is my hero. DeJohnete is a great drummer, but maybe not always a good leader. This time he succeeded.
Thank you Katona on the outstanding album.

  18. Greg,

I have contributed two albums to My Favourite Sound:

    Jean-Luc Ponty - Sonata Erotica

    Dave Liebman - Drum Ode

I would contribute more but I don't have that much to contribute. And most of it is already up on other blogs.

I have thought about starting a blog where I do music transcriptions from a lot of these rare albums. But I'm not sure how many people would be interested.

I'll try to contribute again soon.

I'm sure my parents would be proud. :)

    Thanks.

  19. This album--and this blog--are absolute treasures, thanks Katonah! I am at work right now (and actually need to start working), so I will listen to this when I get home.

  20. maybe dejohnette is not a leader as roach is, as igor pointed out, but had many interesting ideas -musically-
some very succesfull. i dont know this one, first time i hear of it, thank you

  21. Thanks a lot!
    Didn't know this album
    Igor:
Jack DeJohnette is a great leader: check all of his early ECM albums with Directions, New Directions and Special Edition groups, they're awesome

  22. I had this on vinyl back in the day, and remember falling in love with the version of Neophilia (even better than Lee Morgan's, if I remember rightly). Thanks for the opportunity to hear it again.

Can a simple dog puppet offer his humble blog, allthissteam@blogspot, as quid pro quo for an invitation to the inner sanctum? Said dog puppet would be most grateful and generous with his contributions.

  27. Ahhhh What to say? You knock me out with your Hutcherson/Land posts, you then run me over with-never-heard- before stuff from Henderson/Shaw at the lighthouse and now you kill me with this.....!!!!!!!!! You got any Hancock live at the vanguard bootleg circa-1965 tucked away anywhere?!?

  28. i do have a few more hutcherson live sets, one has herbie on there playing. maybe later on ... thanks for the comment sasha

  31. this is pretty sweet, katonah! i haven't seen or heard this title in years. i've always enjoyed dejohnette's work, particularly from this period. thanks for sharing it with us.

  32. sorry that the comment was delayed. I think this is really really wonderful though listened many times. maximum thanks!!!

  33. I've had an interesting experience with listening to this album. As I said earlier I was looking forward to this one. But somewhere along the line I lost track of the download, and then didn't put in the meta data. However, I've been listening to it for some time completely unaware of who was involved in the recording. I tried to figure out who it was, but I didn't even guess DeJohnette!

Today after listening again I made a little effort to track it down. I'm going to do this more often. Although I'm a big fan of DeJ's work I didn't have this one, and freed from the bias of knowing the musicians I did listen afresh.

What an irony the title now seems. Many, many thanks for sharing.

  34. Thanks. I had some problems with the first link but after some attepts it worked.

  35. Digging back in the vaults... and here's one I totally slept on, passed over for whatever reason.
A wonderful discovery — and a great share!
    Deeply appreciated NOW!
    cheers Katonah!

  37. Just dropped by again and spotted this comment after mine…

That's a great track, and one sadao's greatest albums!

You probably know but, Barabara means sort of "scattered" or "all over the place". Just like me…

    hope you're doing good,
    cheers!
