Rare lp from 1985 from Bob Cunningham featuring Melvin Sparks. Lover's Theme was sampled by Gilles Peterson on one of the Digs America compilations. Heavy bass line on this one, Vinyl rip @ 320
Yea yea remember being hipped to this one a while ago by Alvin Queen who started up Nilva Records..He was happy to send me a few of the 'Bassic' classics from the label this being amongst them (also included some Ray Drummond as I remember)..The vocal/bass comedy number sticks in my mind but with my turntable being down I haven't heard anything from this session in a while..Of course Bob's playing needs no introduction..The word 'Heavy' was invented for guys like him!! Many thanks for this little post.
Yea katonah I know that one..There are a lotta gems in that there catalogue..Who knows? Maybe room out there for a new blog dedicated to collecting and posting them..

ReplyDeleteManaged to pick up a copy of John Patton's Soul Connection on Nilva way back. Another great album from Alvin's label.
