Barry Cole : Goodbye Brains. CR60009

Barry Cole : Goodbye Brains

All the information is contained within the pictures. Super rare, and strictly privately pressed UK killer album from 1972. Very obscure release which really impressed all the way through. Here's the title track displaying the talents of a superb line-up, backed up with Little Yummy which reaches out to the latin-side of things. This came my way by pure chance, and my grateful thanks goes out those persons that allowed this to happen.

Nueva Vision

Nueva Vision
Latin jazz and Soul from the Cuban Label EGREM / AREITO 1971-1989

Stunning compilation from a way back now. No real favourites, they all hit the high notes.

Artists include ;

Chucho Valdes
Grupo Tema IV
Emiliano Salvador
Orchestra Los Van Van
C.I.V Jefatura de Retaguardia
Irakere
Ricardo Eddy Martinez y Expresso Ritmico
Orquestra Maravillas de Florida
Chucho Valdes y su Quinteto

Pushed, Soy Cubano by Omara Portuondo is the bomb. Layer upon layer of heavy latin percussion and big brass mash runs through the whole thing.

The Alan Skidmore 1970 ; New link

The Alan Skidmore Quintet
Takin' Care of Business

Recorded 21st October 1970, Philips Studios, London.

Stunning piece of British jazz from this rare Japanese cd. Alan Skidmore is suitably supported by Malcolm Griffiths, John Taylor,  Chris Laurence, Tony Levin, Mike Osbourne and John Surman.  Picked this one up a while ago for peanuts and was a total surprise to me. This, the title track is an addictively fierce big band piece which takes your breath away. Up there with the John Surman track Dance, from earlier on the blog. Check it out, immense tune indeed.

Koichi Matsukaze Trio : Earth Mother

Koichi Matsukaze Trio : Earth Mother.
ALM-5001 ALM Records.

So here it is, one of the all time super rare Japanese jazz records of all time. Google searches return little or no information about this killer spiritual jazz monster. All bar one of the tracks were recorded at the Tachikawa Social Educational Hall January 1978 and released on the very limited ALM label.

Not only is this one scarce, it takes your breath away with pounding keys, fierce bass and driving percussion.

Here's the 11+ minute title track in full lossless glory.
Let me know what you think, and good luck hunting another one down!
