Bobby Hutcherson : Video

Bobby Hutcherson : Herzog (video)

Super rare footage of the "MAN" supported by Stanley Cowell, Joe Chambers and Harold Land. It's all here in beautiful monochrome loveliness, complete with Bobby sporting the killer neckerchief ! The year looks around 1970, maybe earlier, and this one's super cool. Land drops a heavy tone but Hutcherson's solo soars. The finest film of Hutch i've ever come across and secretly supplied by someone who wishes to remain nameless. Thanks must abound, there's more in the pipeline ... killer, KILLER GEARS !!!!

  8. Yea yea thats Reggie Johnson on bass..I'd say, as an educated guess, that this was filmed on the European '69 tour the band took..Actually is this a film of the 1969 Antibes Jazz Festival performance? Could be..I've been watching the Miles Davis Quintet concert from the '69 festival and the stage looks pretty much the same..I'll compare this performance of 'Herzog' with the audio recording of the concert..Also by the '70 Lubijana concert (on ENJA records) Hal Galper was at the piano.

  9. You know this is definately one of those gems that we all look forward to discovering through blogs such as this..And the fact that no-one I knew had ever mentioned its existence makes it all the more exciting..My only slight criticism of the filming here would be the 'creative' cutting that goes on during Bobby's solo (but I notice not on the tenor or piano solos)..The vibes solo is bewildering enough in its complexity without the eye being constantly distracted by the cuts..Still only a minor gripe..It really is awesome..Yea as Reza says or Oliver Twist would have it: 'Can we have some more, sir?!?'
