(some) Bobby Hutcherson

Bobby Hutcherson : Live 1977.
Now!

If you've ever been here before, the chances are you'll know that i'm an obsessive fan of Bobby Hutcherson. The guy has never put a foot wrong, and has the touch, and finesse, class and style of a pure genius. Never more so was this evident, than on the album, Blue Note Meets the L.A Philharmonic. Arranged by Dale Oehler, responsible for among others, the killer album Waiting, and includes all the players from that gem. Eddie Marshall, Manny Boyd, Bobbye Porter Hall, George Cables and James Leary who wrote my all time favourite track, Prime Thought.

These 4 live tracks are all sublime, but for me, Bobby's solo in Slow Change, is simply prefect. If you've never heard these, go get it, now!

  2. Katonah, You know as a fellow B Hutcherson lover I gotta say you have laid upon us all some awesome gems of the man (those live sets with H Land being particularly great)..One live recording I've been trying to track down for a while is the Hutcherson Live at E.J'S set..Had a short shelf life and hard to get hold of now..Do you know it? Any chance you could share any of it? As always many thanks for all your efforts.

  20. Kat, you're right, that "Slow Changes" really kills! And "Now!" takes me in heartbreaking spheres only inhabited by Donny Hathaway's "I Love The Lord, He Heard My Cry" from Extension Of A Man. Don't know how to thank you for all that Hutch treasures. May your crusade go on forever!
PS Like b2v, I'm so disappointed to find part 2 of live in Hamburg dead: we really "need to hear Same Shame", those "36 Minutes of of pure jazz heaven" you talked about. So, if you get some time… you'll make two guys happy. Peace.
