John Hicks : Strata East SES-8002

John Hicks ; Hells Bells

Not the most sort after strata east title, but a great listen overall. Takes a few listen's and then the whole thing makes much more sense.

Underrated, overlooked, recommended.

  2. Thank you. Quite nice actually despite sounding completely un-produced. Discogs says it was actually recorded in 1975. Perhaps it was found in the vaults and simply released?

  6. thanks for this one -- I probably thought I was too cool for this and passed it by way back when. John Hicks is an amazing talent, and I always appreciate hearing Clint Houston as well. Nice pick!

  8. i remember hearing John Hicks when he was in Betty Carter's band and could never understand why he did not get more work on other people's recordings...oh well...this is kinda like McCoy Tyner lite...I hope I don't sound too ignorant with that comparison...thanks for posting this.
